CCMS Academic Team Wins 18th Consecutive District Governor's Cup Title
Calloway County Middle School's Academic Team won the District Governor's Cup tournament on January 17th at North Marshall Middle School. This is the 18th consecutive district championship for the CCMS Academic Team.
The Lakers totaled 75 team points, followed by Murray Middle with 37 team points.
Along with the overall championship, students were awarded medals in all areas of competition. In the area of science, the Lakers swept the top three places with Elijah Craft being named champion, Keela Arnett as runner-up, and Grace Munoz claiming third place. The Lakers also claimed three spots in fine arts with Ellie Johnson and Madison Purdy tying for the championship, followed by Grace Munoz in fourth. In the area of social studies, the Lakers claimed three spots with Jayden Burkeen in first place, followed by Nathan Langley in second, and Emma Grogan in fourth place. The area of mathematics saw Andy Rogers finishing as runner-up, followed by Daniel Briedwell in fourth place and Dean Vernon in fifth place. Madison Purdy claimed the championship in language arts, with Azlyn Rose following in third place, and Lilah Hill in fifth place. In the composition competition, the Lakers had Ellie Johnson taking the championship, with Naomi Dean and Hallie O’Dell tying for third place. Finally, the Lakers claimed all five spots in the General Knowledge competition with Andy Rogers being named the champion, followed by Madison Purdy in second, Grace Munoz in third, and Elliott Malone and Daniel Briedwell tying for fourth place.
In the team events, the Lakers claimed the championship in both Future Problem Solving and Quick Recall. The Future Problem Solving team is composed of Ellie Johnson, Ruby Moore, Ashlyn Sebby, Azlyn Rose, Odin Beatty, Naomi Dean and James Johnson. The Quick Recall team is composed of Jayden Burkeen, Andy Rogers, Lilah Hill, Wyatt Lasley, Elijah Craft, Ellie Johnson, Madison Purdy, Grace Munoz, and Daniel Briedwell.
